Kathmandu, July 6, 2026 — Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, through its Meteorological Forecasting Division, has reported that monsoon winds continue to influence weather conditions across the country.
According to the Division, the monsoon trough is positioned south of its average location in eastern Nepal and around its average position in western Nepal.
Currently, most parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces are generally cloudy, while Madhesh Province is partly cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.
This afternoon, the Division forecasts generally cloudy conditions across Nepal’s Himalayan and hilly regions. The Terai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces are also expected to remain generally cloudy, while the Terai areas of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces will experience partly cloudy conditions.
Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with possible snowfall, is likely at a few locations in the Himalayan and hilly regions.
A few places in the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as isolated locations in the Terai areas of Koshi and Madhesh provinces, may experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The Division has also warned of possible windstorms in some areas of Madhesh Province and the Terai regions of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.
