Kathmandu, August 28, 2026 — The Nepal Army has safely rescued 350 workers and local residents who were trapped inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli Hydropower Project following devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district.

The Nepal Army said it conducted the rescue operation under extremely dangerous conditions amid adverse weather and powerful floodwaters. According to the Army, more than 100 people remain trapped inside the tunnel, and efforts are underway to bring them to safety.

A military team led by Jamdar Bhaktajan Basnet, operating under the Number 1 Second Movement Tactical Headquarters (Trishuli), has been continuously deployed to carry out the complex rescue operation inside the tunnel.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Army has intensified rescue operations in other remote areas of Rasuwa that are at high risk of flooding. A team deployed from the SQRty Dhunche Barracks under the leadership of Second Lieutenant Abhishek Shahi has relocated an additional 533 people to safer locations from Syafrubesi, Timure, Mailung, Thulo Haku, Hakubesi, and other affected areas.

According to the Nepal Army, a total of 883 workers and local residents had been rescued from various flood-affected areas of Rasuwa by late Thursday.

The Army said its rescue efforts had helped prevent a potentially significant loss of human lives.
