More than 16 billion rupees in foreign investment in three months

Kathmandu, Oct 19, 2023/ Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments worth 16.5 billion rupees have been received in the first three months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Department of Industry, from Shrawan to Asoj, investment commitments of 16.6 billion rupees have been received through 151 projects. In the month of Asoj alone, investment commitments of 1.98 billion rupees have been received through 40 projects. According to the department, investment commitments have been received in 144 small, medium, four and three large industries during the three months. The highest investment commitments have been received in the service and tourism sectors during the three months. Foreign investment commitments have been received in the information technology, manufacturing, energy, agriculture and mining sectors. The department has stated that in the previous Bhadra, commitments of 2.72 billion rupees have been received through 51 projects alone. In the last month of Shrawan, commitments of 11.93 billion rupees have been received through 60 industries. The highest number of foreign investment commitments were received in the month of Shrawan. The commitment amount decreased with the registration of industries in the month of Bhadra. The department has recommended 781 business visas until Asoj.

Nepal has received foreign investment commitments of Rs 466.573.224 billion through 6,100 projects since its inception. Despite commitments to invest in Nepal, it has been found that only a small amount of investment has been made. Only 30 to 35 percent of the commitment has been made in Nepal.

Arrangements have been made to allow foreign investment of up to Rs 500 million to be made through the automatic route in the country. The government has made arrangements to bring foreign investment of up to Rs 500 million to Nepal through the automatic route and invest in industries and businesses. It is estimated that investment in Nepal will increase after making arrangements to invest up to Rs 500 million through the automatic route. Industries that receive foreign investment through the automatic route include energy-based industries, agriculture and forest products-based industries, infrastructure industries, tourism industries, information technology-based industries, service-based industries, and manufacturing industries.
