Travel memories
The ancient civilization of the Gulmi region stumbles upon the village of Varse. The village of Varse is not only a historical but also an archeological site, but due to the remaining excavations, a big secret of history is buried under the soil of the Varse area. Varse is a village made up of floating land in the middle of the surrounding hills. In the Bhujel language, the part between the two hills is called Varse. According to linguists, the word bhanjyang in the Nepali language is a corruption of the word varse. About 250 years ago, there were 12 kingdoms like Dekchuli-Badchuli, Varse, Gotadi, etc., of which Bhugangdev Sendev was the king of Varse. Until 2038, there were seven chiefs in Varse. Among them, Tek Bahadur Bhujel (Bukeni chief) described himself as a descendant of the 14th generation of the last Sen king Bhugang Dev of Varse.
At an altitude of about 7,000 feet, Varse is bounded on the east by the then Foxing and Hasara VDCs, on the west by Rupakot and Harewa VDCs and Gwagha VDC, and the south by Juniya, Johang, and Hansara VDCs. It is bounded by Satyavati Lake in the east, Chidiga Lake in the west, Fursethan in the north, and Mayaldada in the south. At the time of the existence of twenty-four and twenty-four states in Nepal, there was also a brown state in Arkul of Varse. Later, Gulmeli Limgha and Rupakot also separated their Maulas and Maula Varse reached Sangurin only in the village. The state of Varse (Arkul) was bounded on the east by Lumdi river, on the west by Gedi river, on the north by Chamsaira Gaira, and on the south by Badhighat. There were two police stations in Sirko and Fursethan and outposts in Haripal Kot. However, the remains of those outposts and police station buildings and walls can be seen for state security. Kali Gandaki region (now Ghawalagiri, around 1100)
Historians do not mention Arkul (Varse) in the list of 24 states. Therefore, it should be a hobby of the Sen state. Of course, it is mentioned that even the Gorkha state was not counted under 24. Pvt. Dr. According to Rajaram Subedi, there were eleven subjects (districts) outside the valley in the latter part of the Lichhavi period, and one of them was the Maggwar subject. By 1157, the Magars had settled. At that time, it has been proved that there was King Shivadev in the Upatyaka, feudal king Ramdeep in the case of Maggwar, and the subject was Shri Saheb Rane (Rana Magar?). When the rule of the center was weak, the Khas Malla kings of Hun origin started their rule by making Sinja of Karnali province as the center. The Maggwar subject also fell under the Sinja kingdom. Later, after the weakening of the Khas Malla Empire in Karnali, Baldengadhi (Balihang State) was established. King Balihang (Bali Raja) was Bhujel. V.S. After the creation of Gulmi in 1493, Palpa in 1550, etc., the surrounding seven states merged. Around 1600, they attacked and destroyed Baldengadhi. (Research Series, Issue 2, Page 3)

Varse is the tallest hill in Gulmi district. At 8,825 feet above sea level, the village of Varse is one of the few scenic settlements in the country. Apart from some artisans, the entire village has about 500 households. It is a Magar and Sen Bhujel settlement. Agriculture is the main source of income for the people here, but the basis of prosperity is the employment of Indian and British troops. At one time almost all households had at least one member in the British or Indian Army. That is why the village of Varse was also called a military settlement. The Sen Bhujels introduced themselves as Magars just to enlist in the British Army. The population of the Sen Bhujels in Varse is very busy as they have started writing the last name of the local Magar caste.
Varse is also the birthplace of Giri Prasad
Budathoki, the first leader of Gulmi district. Giri Prasad’s name comes from the name Varse. Although 5 MPs have been elected from Varse village so far, no one has been able to surpass Giri Prasad. In Bikram Samvat 1972, that is, in 1915, a 17-year-old Giri Prasad arrived in Gorakhpur and was admitted. He showed great courage in the Second World War. After that, his name was mentioned and it became clear that Varseli was recruited. He retired as Henry Captain and joined the People’s Revolution of 2007. After the people’s revolution, he became the first governor of Gulmi.
He later became a member of the Rastriya Panchayat and even the Minister of Defense. On his initiative, a school was established in Varse in 2008 BS. Since then, British citizens have been offered free English and science education. The school where English medium education has been started in the district is the public support school of Varse.
The Budhathoki family has made the history of three brothers and sons of the same family becoming ministers. Brother Bhim Bahadur Budhathoki and his son Sri Prasad Budhathoki also became ministers. Even VP Koirala, a visionary statesman, freely praised his contribution as the Section Commander of the Salvation Army during the People’s Revolution of 2007. In the 2015 general election, Gulmi had two constituencies. He won the election from one of the constituencies while the then Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Suvarna Shamsher Rana won from the other constituency. Giri Prasad Budhathoki is the main contributor to the victory of Suvarnashamsher who did not step foot in Gulmi.
After dissolving the people-elected parliament and government on January 26, 2017, the then King Mahendra Shah handed over the responsibility of screening to the honest leaders with the mass base and capacity of the Nepali Congress. Budhathoki was also chosen by the king. Budhathoki, who represented Gulmi during the Panchayat period repeatedly became a minister for 11 years. Budhathoki is the longest-serving MP and minister from Gulmi district. Similarly, Bhim (Prasad) Bahadur Budhathoki of Varse also became a member of the Rajya Sabha (honorable) during the Panchayat period. Nar Bahadur Budhathoki and Om again became generals of the Nepal Army. Bhujel of Varse Bucheni became a colonel in the Indian Army. Ganga Prasad of Varse mine became Budhathoki Lupton. Giri Prasad’s daughter’s grandson and former Nepal Police Deputy Inspector General Niraj Pun. Giri Prasad’s youngest son Nara Bahadur Budhathoki retired from the Nepal Army
In 2015 BS, the development program was conducted targeting 6 districts including Gulmi. Among them was Paramlal Budhathoki, a development officer from Varse. The program was canceled in 2018 BS. In 2048 BS, Zak Bahadur of Varse was re-elected to the House of Representatives by the Nepali Congress. In the 2070 election, Dr. Krishna Prasad Chhantyal of the same village also became an MP.
Gulmi is also the educational center of the Western Development Region. The Sanskrit Pathshala has opened in Reedy 150 years ago. In terms of Sanskrit education, Reedy, and terms of modern education, Varse village is one of the oldest educational centers in the western region. The language school was opened in 1987 in Varse. The lower secondary school was established in the year 2008. Secondary school was established in 2016 BS. It was the custom to go to study in Varse carrying flour (rice) from different villages of Gulmi and neighboring districts till the end of the Panchayat period. Many of the students who studied at Varse have become doctors and engineers. Apart from this, they have also reached a high level in the domestic and foreign armies. Those doing Ph.D. are also noteworthy. The number of those who have reached high positions in the army and police is the same. Shyam Thapa, who has gained national and international prestige in the field of sports, is from Varse.
Hom Bahadur Sen, a junior from Varse, also became a captain in the British army. Padam Lal Pun, who was also the Pradhan Panch during the Panchayat period, has a big investment in Varse. His son Zak Bahadur was also elected as a Nepali Congress candidate from Gulmi Constituency No. 1 in the second general election of the country held in 2048 BS. Krishna Chhantyal of Varse also became an MP. Kul Bahadur Budhathoki is a technician engineer at Gorkha Signal. He is currently the highest-paid Nepali in Hong Kong. He has been making a great contribution to the development and social service of Varse.
Dil Bahadur Rana is known as a doctor in Varse. She has saved the lives of many pregnant and lactating women and newborns. The patients who died due to urinary incontinence have been treated at home. Due to the lack of road transport facilities, he appeared as God in Varse. Kargil Rana, Dhan Bahadur Gurung, who came to teach in Varse from Keraun, has also made a great contribution.
In this way, Vaibhav was
once the richest village of Gulmi in all respects, but the same wealth made Varseli leaves his ancestral village. About 70 percent have left Varse now. Many houses are empty. About two-thirds of Varse’s land is still barren. Some have let their brothers and relatives wash the house.
By 2047, there were 520 households in Varse. If it had not been relocated, it would have had a large number of households now. At present, there are only 329 households. Many of them have left their homes and moved to Rupandehi and Kathmandu. After the opening of the Hong Kong ID in 2052-054, a large number of Varsalis left. Apart from that, many also reached The UK. They are scattered in many countries including Singapore. Some lived in Malaysia and Verma during World War II.
Leaving heaven and
Living in hell When I reached the Deurali hill of Varse, I saw the view in Panara and thought that this is what heaven is all about. More than half of Nepal’s mountains were in front of my eyes. During that time, an amazing scene stuck in my eyes. The mountain was not a mountain but a black pyramid. There really wasn’t even a handful of snow. I’m sorry What happened That raised many questions in my mind. Perhaps we have exploited nature for development and livelihoods. Global warming seems to have caused snow to fall on our mountains.
Now we will run out of drinking water. Our beautiful country will also turn into a desert. This is very sad news. What can we do to prevent this from happening? The problem of global warming can be pushed back if we use our own hydropower instead of petroleum products which increases pollution.
Leaving the paradise-like place chosen by the foresighted ancestors, we have chosen to live in hell with a pile of garbage. We have spent our earned money on medical treatment. But there is a health post in Varse, where you have to wait for weeks to see the sick come for treatment. People aged 87-88 were found to be busy in their farming. My father-in-law Dil Bahadur Ranaki’s 91-year-old sister said that she has not had to take citamole till now. I also heard that I used to drink a little bit of Kodo liquor regularly before dinner. The number of people over 100 years of age is significant in Varse. The secret is the healthy climate of Varse. The number of people who have moved to the Terai and the city from Varse and spent the day in the hot air of the fan beating their own cheeks is also noteworthy. Varse’s house is leaking and collapsing. Varseli is losing his paradise in UK, Hong Kong, Kathmandu, and Pokhara.
But a far-sighted farmer was seen cultivating sample vegetables, goat rearing, and agarwood. If Ud is a tree more expensive than gold. The future is bright for her and her children. Right now, the value of an agarwood tree has reached Rs 10 million. After going abroad and eating under, he is enjoying growing gold on his own cliff. He has been to the USA, UK, Switzerland here. Forgetting their heavenly village and living in a hellish city, the Varseli community may have used luxury cars and cars, but at the same time, they are carrying the burden of disease.
This Pantikar wants to salute the great brother who remembers the heavenly Varse as his mother. Sadly, Pantikar Varseli urges the rich, educated, high-ranking sisters and brothers to make this heavenly land a tourist destination. If you do not want to settle in this area and introduce this heavenly place to the world, you will only be a citizen. Not Bhumiputra.
