Ram Chandra Poudel, a senior leader of the main opposition party Nepali Congress, could not hold a peaceful program in his home district of Tanahu. He was arrested by the police on Wednesday and remanded in custody for three hours. The cadres who went to meet Poudel were chased away by the police and thugs. Police had been deployed at checkpoints four days ago to prevent the public from attending the program attended by Poudel. On Wednesday, a curfew was imposed in Beas municipality. The condition of Damauli Bazaar became almost the same as during the Panchayat period and the royal rule.

Senior leader Poudel had reached Damauli to participate in the inauguration program of two bridges. He inaugurated the bridge over the Seti River connecting Beas Municipality and Rishing Village on Sunday. While preparing for the inauguration of the bridge connecting Dumsi and Talghare of Vyasnagar Municipality, the government resorted to widespread repression. Why did the government resort to such naked repression? The case is directly linked to corruption. The foundation stone of three bridges was laid in Tanahu two years ago. Among them, Poudel had laid the foundation stone of two bridges in Beas Municipality by managing the budget on his initiative.

The construction of both the bridges has been completed. After defeating another bridge Poudel, Kisan Shrestha, who became an MP from Constituency No. 1, laid the foundation stone at Ghumauneghat. The construction of a very important bridge at Ghumauneghat to shorten the distance between Damauli and Narayangarh by 25 km is in abeyance. This important bridge has fallen into disrepair due to disagreement between MP Shrestha and the contractor. With only one month left until the end of the contract period, not even five percent of the bridge under construction has been completed.

The fact that the two bridges laid under the leadership and activism of the Nepali Congress were completed one month before the agreement period, but the fact that not even five percent of the work of the bridge under the activism of the CPN (Maoist) was completed was a big sign in itself. While the size, type, and cost of these three bridges are almost the same. After the possibility of exposing the naked nature of his corruption increased, the program of CPN (Maoist) MP Shrestha Poudel was canceled. This is the result of that incident in Damauli.

The government has issued an order not to allow more than 25 people to gather, citing the corona infection. The government has claimed that Poudel’s program was obstructed due to a large crowd. If this ordinance had been implemented equally in all places, it would have made sense for the government to make this claim, but this ordinance of the government has not been implemented anywhere. The royalists are holding thousands of rallies in different cities of the country.

The KP Sharma Oli faction of the ruling CPN (Maoist) is also holding rallies in different parts of the country praising the work done by the government. Social distance has been washed away in such gatherings. No matter how many people gather in praise of Prime Minister Oli. The practice of not maintaining social distance but not praising him has started in the country. This is what dictatorship is all about.

Differences between democracy and dictatorship

In a democracy, the observance of the constitution, laws, and rules is binding on all citizens, but after the dictatorship, the ruler and the supporters of the ruler do not have to follow the constitution, laws, and rules. At this time, Prime Minister Oli and his supporters are free to follow the constitution, laws, and rules. Democracy allows for peaceful demonstrations, but dictatorship is dominated by power. At this time, the proposal of power has prevailed.

The government has permitted to hold peaceful rallies and demonstrations to some, but not to others. In a democracy, the people have the right to protest against the wrongdoings of the government, but after the dictatorship, the people have the right to praise the government, they do not have the right to protest. At this time, those who do not praise the government have been widely repressed in Oli Raj. In a democracy, everyone is free to work creatively, but those who do not support power under dictatorship are not free to work creatively. Those who support the government are also allowed to commit any criminal act. Opposition groups called for a boycott of the rally but said that maintaining some independence was not the answer.

How does dictatorship come about?

Dictatorship does not come by playing the instrument. Even with the previous announcement, dictatorship does not come. Democracy and dictatorship are opposite characters. Democracy comes with pre-declaration. Democratic governance is transparent. But dictatorship comes in many attractive shells when it gains power and starts making many attempts. If we look at the practice of different countries of the world and Nepal as well, it seems that dictatorship has been imposed by carrying various assurances and sweet slogans. When it comes to the rights of the people, the dictators shout the slogan of people’s rights first class as compared to the democrats.

Raises the issue of nationality. Before becoming the Prime Minister, Oli had also raised the issue of people’s rights. The totalitarians propagate themselves as nationalists and all other countries as traitors. Oli had campaigned in the same way before becoming the Prime Minister. The totalitarians themselves propagate that they are development lovers and all others are against development. Oli had campaigned in the same way before becoming the Prime Minister.

The dictators propagate themselves as very virtuous, all others corrupt, as Oli did before the election. When the dictators come to power, they preach that the people’s rights have been established in the country, nationalism is the strongest in history, the root of development has exploded, and corruption has been eradicated. Extreme misuse of state resources for such propaganda. Prime Minister Oli is also spreading such propaganda at this time.

Transparency International, an international body that monitors corruption, has stated in its report that corruption is unprecedented in the world. What is the status of people’s rights? A vivid example of this is the behavior of senior opposition leader Poudel in Tanahu on Wednesday. What is the status of nationality? This has already been confirmed by the Chinese ambassador to the neighboring country and the representatives of the Indian intelligence agencies. Has the root of development burst or dried up? The Melamchi Drinking Water Project case has already confirmed that. It is not necessary to spend fuel by giving many examples.

If democracy turns into dictatorship, the consequences can be dire. This has been confirmed by the increasing activities of the royalists at this time. Even those who are ashamed to come to the streets in the name of Hinjo Raja are openly protesting today. Demands for the restoration of the monarchy have also begun. There are more and more people who say that monarchy is better than this system. It has been confirmed that the Oli government has moved ahead to overthrow the monarchy. What could be more alarming for democracy than here? Because the Nepali people have not experienced the direct rule of the king for a long time. In addition to the 30-year-old panchayat, the Nepali people have ruled the country for four years from 2059 BS to 2063 BS. Even more than that, the people have concluded that Oli’s current regime is gone.
